Defining four Decades: A Commemorative Logo and Interactive Digital Timeline
The Challenge
Since 1978, the Stanford Blood Center (SBC) has been a global leader in transfusion medicine. To honor their 40th anniversary, the organization needed a visual identity that celebrated four decades of innovation without losing the brand recognition they had built within the Stanford School of Medicine community.
The Creative Strategy
I designed a commemorative 40th-anniversary mark centered on the concept of Fresh Heritage. By integrating the iconic SBC heart graphic into a custom "40" numeral, the logo felt instantly recognizable to long-time donors while signaling a milestone achievement.
To bridge the gap between history and the modern donor, I also co-developed an interactive digital timeline. Utilizing a mix of archival imagery and clean UI elements, this web-based experience allowed users to explore SBC’s life-saving milestones from 1978 to the present.
The Impact
The anniversary identity was deployed across a wide-scale multi-channel campaign.
Physical Touchpoints: Developed designs for limited-edition apparel, donor stickers, and commemorative pins.
Digital Reach: The interactive timeline served as the centerpiece for SBC’s 2018 digital storytelling strategy.
Internal Culture: The campaign successfully unified staff and donors, resulting in high engagement during celebratory events throughout the year.
